L.S. v. Life Insurance Company of North America (Cigna)

“I enjoyed working with your staff. They were professional and nice. Also they were very good at staying on top of the insurance company and taking care of things so that I didn’t have to worry. I was confused at times but the Grabhorns took the time to explain things in a manner that I could understand. I appreciate everything they did.” - L.S.

While working as a customer service retail banking manager for Fifth Third Bank, our client was insured by Life Insurance Company of North America (Cigna) for short-term disability insurance benefits and long-term disability insurance benefits. When she became physically unable to continue working due to her convulsions (non-epileptic episodes) and conversion disorder, she applied for her short-term disability benefits with Cigna. Cigna initially approved the claim, but only four months later, Cigna arbitrarily terminated her short-term disability insurance benefits. Our client then applied for long-term disability insurance benefits, but Cigna also denied this claim.

Following Cigna’s denial of her claim for long-term disability insurance benefits, she hired Grabhorn Law to prepare and file an appeal. Working with our client and her treating doctors, Grabhorn Law filed an appeal with Cigna that supported her claim for ongoing long term disability insurance benefits. Shortly thereafter, Cigna reversed its denial, found her disabled from performing her full-time duties as a bank manager, and provided her with the insurance policy’s monthly long term disability benefits.
